Our climate today is changing unusually, well I believe this is due to the GLOBAL WARMING, and this past few days rains are pouring so heavy consecutively, then there is also time that it was so damn hot, and because of these sudden climate change I am now having a cough and the worst of all, its a DRY COUGH! It really annoys me for some reasons.
First, let me tell you something little about cough, there are two kinds of cough, the productive cough and the dry cough. Productive cough is defined when some type of secretions come up while coughing this could be a mucous or blood. Dry cough is a result of a recent virus or foreign matter or come after soar throat, another cause of dry cough could be a climate-controlled building. Coughing is good as it eject unwanted matter in your lungs.
So here some of the tips to prevent dry cough:
1. When you are working on a climate-controlled building, you should avoid drinking and eating cold foods as it interfere with your body's ability to maintain optimal temperature, instead drink hot or warm liquids and warm foods to soothe the mucus membranes and moisturize your throat.
2. Elevate you head at night with an extra pillow, this will help to stop the tickle on your throat.
3. Avoid eating nuts, coconut, and any kind of food that has an excessive oil.
4. Avoid chocolate and ice cream.
5. Avoid consuming any fruits or vegetables that may cause excessive cooling in your body. Do not eat cucumbers, green bananas, papayas and watermelons when suffering from cough.
6. Drink hot tea to break up the mucus and open and moisten the airways.
7. Cough drops or hard candy will help stop the tickle if you have a dry cough and will moisten the throat.
8. Hot packs placed on your throat and chest are very soothing.
9. Try eating hot chili peppers, horseradish or other spicy foods. They will help loosen mucus.
10. Drink at least 8 eight ounce or more glasses of water a day. This is especially important if your cough is due to an illness. Water is the best expectorant you can take and will help thin the mucus and loosen the cough.

3. Garlic Grate one or two cloves of garlic and mix with a teaspoon of honey. Take as needed.
4. Ginger Make a tea using ginger and drink 6 oz several times a day, as needed.
5. Honey Mix honey with juice of a fresh lemon and take as needed. Not only does honey soothe the tickle, but it has antibacterial properties, too.
6. Onion broth Make a broth by boiling an onion for 10-15 minutes; strain and drink the broth several times a day. The broth will reduce congestion.
7. Garlic Mince a clove of garlic and place in a small bowl; cover with honey and cover the bowl with plastic wrap; marinate overnight. Take one tablespoonful upon awakening, then throughout the day, as needed.
NOTE: If your cough is persistent up to 3 weeks, you must seek help from your doctor because this could be a sign of a more serious health condition.
